Feel like no matter how hard you try that you can’t move forward? We all want to make an impact in our lives, family, and work. It’s why we mostly crave feelings of fulfillment, progress, and productivity. We hate being stuck. And we all find ourselves being there from time to time again. For some of us, we may be stuck in big ways while the rest of us feel stuck with the small stuff. Maybe you might actually find yourself stuck right now.

Maybe you feel like you don’t know your purpose or the direction you’re heading in life. Or maybe you know your purpose and your direction, but it seems like you keep getting hit with every obstacle and setback along the way. Or maybe you’re working towards a God-sized dream that you know is meaningful but you can’t seem to break through and push forward. The truth is we’ve all been there, and although it may feel like it, all is not lost.

The good news is that being stuck usually means that you do want to and are trying to move forward, but the reality is that it's hard. Usually making forward progress looks like doing meaningful things that move you out and beyond your comfort zone. And like with anything that appears painful or uncomfortable, our brains literally create defense mechanisms to keep us safe and sound. But does that mean that we should stay there?

We all know by now that nothing grows in our comfort zone so in order to elevate ourselves to the next level and do the things that God is calling us to do, we’re going to have to get unstuck and the goods news is that it can be done. Getting unstuck will help you accomplish God’s purposes more effectively, so here are 5 ways you can get unstuck and back on track.

Get clear on your purpose.

If you don’t know the why behind your existence, you won’t have a reason to justify what you’re working towards. In order to get unstuck from the things that don’t matter or are holding you back, you have to get clear on your purpose. Yes on a greater scale your purpose is to serve, help others, and build God’s Kingdom, but God has assigned you a specific purpose to assist in that greater mission. It’s your job to uncover what it is because it will ground you in everything you do and give you a reason to keep trekking forward.

Know your vision.

It’s not enough to just know your purpose, you have to have a vision for your life. Proverbs 29: 18 tells us, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” If you find yourself being stuck and stagnant, could it be because you don’t have anything that you’re working toward? Your purpose gives you foundation, but your vision will give you direction. Get clear on what yours is so you can determine your next steps.

Set a focus.

Once you understand your purpose and have cast the vision for your life, it’s all about getting focused. That is why it’s so important to set goals for yourself; goals give you focus. Setting goals allows you to direct your energy toward a target so you can start building momentum. Set one to three goals that you can actively work toward to start seeing progress and breakthrough in your life.

Establish new habits.

While goals are your focus, habits are your building blocks. To establish new habits you have to develop discipline. It’s by developing discipline that you will be able to take consistent action toward your goals. And the good news is that you don’t have to develop it by yourself! Discipline is actually a byproduct of the fruit of the spirit, self-control. (Galatians 5:22-24) So if you want to start cultivating new habits, partner with the Holy Spirit and start taking consistent action towards your goals.

Remain accountable.

Sometimes we find ourselves stuck way longer than we should be because we have nobody holding us accountable. Accountability holds us to our word and ensures that we’re actually going to finish what we said we're going to do. Who is holding you accountable? Accountability increases your chances of meeting your goals by 65% and 95% if you're actually meeting with them regularly. Enlist a friend or family member that you know is going to challenge you. Find a mentor who is going to invest in you or hire a coach that is equipped with the tools and strategies that will get you to the next level. The key is to find someone outside of yourself who is going to help you get unstuck and make it happen.
